Barbaresco 'Vallegrande' Ca' del Baio 2015

Barbaresco Vallegrande is the result of four generations of winemakers who have accompanied the growth and development of Ca' del Baio farm, located in Treiso, in the heart of Langhe. The philosophy that has always characterized the production of the Grasso family, owner of Ca' del Baio, follows a rigid approach, according to which the wine comes from a careful work in the vineyard tended to express the typicity of the grape, through the preservation of old plants and the enhancement of the most suitable crus. In this sense, an historical mapping of the hillside portions owned by Ca' del Baio has made it possible to decode the most strategic positions for the cultivation of Nebbiolo grape, with separate vinification of grands crus in order to obtain the purest expressions within the area of Barbaresco DOCG. In the cellar, the correct harmonization between innovative inputs and contributions of tradition allows the coexistence of the most modern vinification technologies with processes more closely related to the setting of the historic Barbaresco. In this sense, beside the use of temperature controlled stainless steel tanks for winemaking, long macerations are provided for Barbaresco, with aging in casks and barrels of medium size and an use of barrique gradually more and more limited. The Barbaresco Vallegrande is in complete harmony with this production choice: originating in the homonymous cru of Treiso, with a fair proportion of old and new vineyards, optimal exposure to southwest and a perfect altitude of 350 meters above sea level, this key product of the company Ca' del Baio is distinguished by elegance and aromatic finesse, highlighting the features of this not so famous micro-geographic area, but with excellent quality.
