Rabasco

Rabasco

The Rabasco winery is a small, family-run producer in the Abruzzo region where rural authenticity and ancient agricultural traditions can be experienced. Here appearances do not count, as wine is made out of passion and love with a purely artisanal approach that focuses on simplicity and territorial expressiveness. Located in the inland hills of Pescara, near Loreto Aprutino, in the beating heart of Abruzzo's wine and olive production area, this is an ideal and widely appreciated territory, home to great producers such as Valentini. Iole Rabasco, originally from Lucania, after graduating in law, decided to start a new adventure in the inland countryside of Pescara and bought a small estate in 2005. Together with her mother Giulia Palese, she realised her dream and launched a project of sustainability and quality, aimed at enhancing the purest and most natural aspects of the land.

Rabasco's vines, grown using the spurred cordon and Abruzzese pergola systems, are located at an altitude of 350-500 metres, overlooking Gran Sasso and Maiella on one side and the Adriatic Sea on the other. The rows of vines, which include varieties of Trebbiano d'Abruzzo and Montepulciano, are spread over 4 vineyards (Cancelli, Concheta, La Salita and San Desiderio) between Loreto Aprutino and the municipality of Pianella, with different microclimates, exposures and land conformations. The soils, which have a good incline, have a common clay matrix and are managed with care and respect through biodynamic preparations, with a purely biological approach. In the cellar, modernisation is reduced to a minimum as is human intervention, allowing fermentation to take place spontaneously and without temperature control using indigenous yeasts in steel, truncated cone vats or demijohns. No racking or filtering is performed, no sulphites are added and the bottling phases are based on the lunar calendar.

The wines of Rabasco have a direct and expressive profile, which is genuine and artisanal, intriguing and with great personality. They are faithful territorial depictions, influenced by seasonal conditions, but always capable of transferring the richness and generosity of the Abruzzo land into the wine glass. Straightforward, authentic and without compromises or interventions, these wines are simply the fruit of the land and the seasonal variations.
